How to book, step by step

Buy a pass
First time here? Sign up for a membership before your first class and both Intro Classes are free — a welcome gift. Prefer to pay as you go? A single drop-in Intro Class is €20; you can still become a member later, it just won't refund what you already paid. This step only unlocks credit — it doesn't book you into a class yet.

Book your class
Now go back into MAAT and reserve an actual day and time from the schedule. This is a separate step from buying the pass — the pass just needs to exist in your account first.

Show up
Arrive a few minutes early. First time here? We lend you a gi — you don't need to bring anything.
Getting started
Do I need experience to start?
No. You start with a private Intro Class — just you and the coach, at your pace. You'll be ready for group classes right after.
What happens in my first class?
Tatami etiquette, how to fall, how to defend, how to get back up. No gi? We lend you one.
What happens after my Intro Class?
You move into Fundamentals — RIKO's six-month, defense-first course for beginners.
Hygiene & mat care
How do you actually clean the mats?
The tatami is vacuumed and mopped before and after every single class — not once a day. We use hypochlorous acid, a hospital-grade disinfectant that leaves no fragrance behind. If the mat smells like nothing, that's the point. Any equipment placed on the tatami sits on its own protective padding.
What kind of tatami is it?
One continuous Dollamur Flexi-Roll tatami, joined with velcro rather than puzzle-piece interlocks. Jigsaw mats have seams that trap sweat and bacteria underneath. A roll-out surface has nowhere for anything to collect.
Is the gi you lend me clean?
Yes. Every loaner gi and rashguard is washed after each use. You will never be handed something another person trained in.
What's expected of me?
Shoes off at the door — the whole room, not just the tatami.
Nails short, hands and feet. Most cuts on a mat come from a fingernail.
Wash your gi and rashguard after every session. Not aired out — washed.
Shower before you train, or shower here. Before and after both work.
No earrings, piercings or rings. Long hair tied back. Cover any open cut before you step on.
What if I have a cut, a rash or a skin infection?
You sit the class out. That includes ringworm, impetigo, staph, herpes gladiatorum, molluscum, and any open or weeping cut you can't fully cover.
It isn't about you — these spread fast on shared mats, and several stay contagious after the visible patch has faded. Come back when a doctor clears you, not when it looks better.
Can I train if I'm ill?
No. Stay home with a fever or anything contagious, and wait 48 hours after any sickness or diarrhoea has stopped. Jiu-jitsu is close-contact — in a room of eight, one person training through an illness means eight people catch it.
Training, pricing & booking
What's the difference between Fundamentals and All Levels?
Fundamentals is the six-month beginner cycle everyone starts with. All Levels is a twelve-month rolling curriculum of drills and specific training, open to amateurs and competitors at any belt.
How much does membership cost?
€99 for 8 classes, valid 30 days. €130 for unlimited training, 30 days. No sign-up fee, no contracts, cancel anytime.
Can I try a single class without committing?
Yes — drop in for €20, no membership required.
Are my two Intro Classes free?
Yes — if you sign up for a membership before you've ever trained, both Intro Classes are free, as a welcome gift. If you pay drop-in for your first Intro Class and become a member afterward, your second Intro Class is free, but the first stays at the drop-in price you already paid.
Where is RIKO and how do I book?
Passatge de Sant Benet, El Born, Barcelona — nearest metro is Arc de Triomf (L1) or Urquinaona (L1/L4). Every booking, including your Intro Class, runs through MAAT.
